obsolete item
We would like to be able to create bills of materials with out using obsolete items. It would be nice to have a pop up window when you enter an obsolete item that tells you it is an obsolete item and wont allow you to use that item. We may have machinery out in the field that has the item that is now obsolete that we might still sell to them but we would like not to have the option to even use that item in a current build when creating the bill of material. I understand the "Transition an item to Obsolete" feature but it would be nice to have it go a step further and not allow BOM process to not allow the use of the obsolete item.
This change is complete and will be available in the next general release of Elliott 8.2. See http://support.elliott.com/knowledgebase/articles/1906111-feature-add-check-for-obsolete-component-item-to for more information.

Edward, This is normally a Product Structure Maintenance issue. We've had an occurrence where an obsolete 'sub-assembly' was added to a Bill of Material and was not noticed until purchasing tried to buy one of the obsolete parts. Also, I have recently figured out that the 'Activity Code' in Inventory Management and the Activity FLAG' in Product Structure Maintenance are NOT the same. Just because you change that code to obsolete on an item in Inventory Management, it doesn't make that item obsolete in a bill of material.
