Feature - Disallow GTIN in UPC Code Field in Item Extra Data

Release Date: 10/25/21

Version: 8.5 and Above

EDI partners may not accept a GTIN (14-digit UPC code) as a valid UPC code. A new Global Setup option has been added to prevent a GTIN from being added to the item extra data field designated as the UPC code field. The new field is available from Global Setup-> System -> Additional Search Key -> 10. Use UPC/SCC-14 /Alternate Item No. If the user enters “Y” or “B,” then a new question becomes available in the popup window: “Allow GTIN in UPC?”

For the "Allow GTIN in UPC?" question, the default is Y. If set to N, the user will not be allowed to enter a 14-digit GTIN as the UPC code for an item in Item Master Maintenance.

If the user attempts to enter a 14-digit GTIN on the item UPC code field, they will receive the message "EDI Trading Partner May Reject 14 Digit GTIN Code As UPC. Entry Not Allowed."

The check also applies when importing items through New Item Import and Change Existing Item Import. The user will receive the error "Invalid Length of UPC/SCC-14" and the item cannot be imported.
