How to Reverse Posted AR Cash Receipt Payment Due to Insufficient Funds

Release Date: 04/15/2022
Version: 7.5 & Up

QSay we have an invoice with ACH terms for $100. When we post the invoice, Elliott automatically applies the payment and it shows fully paid on our end. We are assuming the amount will successfully ACH debit from the customer’s account.

Later, we receive an NSF (insufficient funds) notice that the ACH transaction bounced and has not gone through. We don’t physically have the money. In your opinion, what’s the proper way to account for this in Elliott when the original invoice already shows paid?

A - You should make a reverse cash receipt that enters the same “Check Number” and negative “Check Amount.” The system will create a DM record to offset payment and will show the Invoice still open.  This principal applies to any type of payment, including checks, ACH, credit cards...etc.
