Installing Telerik Components on a Development Computer

Release date: 5/5/2002
Version: Elliott V8.6 and Higher

This article explains how to install licensed Telerik components on a development machine where they are not currently installed:
  • Log into the development machine.
  • Bring up the email you received from Progress that contains an attachment with a link to your Telerik account.  Follow the Telerik account link as indicated by the first red box below:

  • Log in to your Telerik account:

  • Select the Licenses link:

  • Click on one of the licenses:

  • Select the license that has not been assigned (first red box), then press Assign Manager:

  • Select the appropriate manager, then press Assign:

  • This returns you to the Licensed Users where you press Assign Developer:

  • Select the appropriate developer (first red box).  You may or may not want to specify permissions (second red box).  Then press Assign:

  • Navigate back to the Your Licenses page and press Downloads:

  • Press the button for the product you wish to download.  In this case, you will select Progress Telerik Reporting, the first red box:

  • This brings you to a dialog where you select the version that matches your other Telerik projects:

  • But, how do you know which version to select?  The answer is that you need to use Windows Explorer to navigate to a production project that uses Telerik.  Then go up the directory structure until you come to its Dependencies folder, highlight one of the matching .DLLs (like Telerik.Reporting.dll, here), right-click to bring up its Properties and select the Details tab.  That will show you the version to download, in this case, 15.1.21.616:

  • Return to the Product Download page (titled Progress Telerik Reporting in this case) and click on the product file to download (underlined in red).
  • When the download is complete, click on the ^ and select Show in folder.  The downloaded file will be selected in a Windows Explorer dialog.
  • Double-click the file and begin the installation by clicking on the I Agree - Continue button:

  • You may need to customize the components to be installed.  In this case, we do not need support for Visual Studio 2015 and 2017, so click the Customize button to disable them.

  • Disable any unwanted components and then press OK.

  • After you press OK on the above dialog, you can press Install on the screen that follows.
  • Install will take you through the actual installation.
  • You may be required to close any open Visual Studio sessions on the computer before proceeding.

  • Press Finish to complete the installation:
