How Is the Send-From Email Address Being Determined in Elliott?
Version: 8.x & Up
Q - The shipment verification email is currently send from deferred processing at night. The "send-from email" shows this is from one of our staff. We'd like to change it to a more generic email address. How do we go about doing that?
A - You need to login to the Window user on the server or workstation that hosts the Elliott deferred processing function. Startup Elliott Control Center, click on the "Setup" icon on the top left corner. See sample screen below:
In the "Setup/Preferences" window, go to the "Misc." tab, click on the "Email Settings..." button. See sample screen below:
The following instructions are specific to Elliott 8.6. But you can apply the same principle to Elliott 8.5 and prior versions' user interface.
In the "Email Preferences" window, find the check box for "Use this server for Document Emails (like ship confirmation, order quote, etc.)" and click on the corresponding "Properties..." button. See sample screen below:
The main difference with Elliott 8.6 and up is that it supports up to three email servers. If you want to learn more details about this, please see the following KB article:
In the "SMTP Server Properties" window, you can specify the following:
- Server: This is the server URL and port. In this example, you do not change it.
- Account Name: You may need to change this if this account name cannot send on behalf of the generic email address.
- Password: If you change the Account Name, then you need to supply the corresponding password here.
- From Email Address: This is the area where you choose the send-from email address -- either from Elliott password setup, or from Window User Profile.
- Use From Email in Password Setup: If you choose this option, then the send-from address is based on the Elliott user. In Elliott's password setup for this user (e.g., defer), you can specify the email address.
- Use this From email name: If you choose this option, then the send-from address is based on the Window user you login. The information you enter here will be part of the user registry value, which is part of the Windows user profile. The Windows user profile is based on the Windows user you login. The Windows user profile will not change regardless of what Elliott users you login.
After you change to a more generic email address as the send-from, you should click on the "Test email..." button to make sure it works. If it does not work, you should see an error window with a detailed message. Show your IT the error message to resolve it.
The typical problem is that the authentication user may not have the right to use the generic email address. This is especially the case when you have a cloud-based email service like Outlook 365. By default, Outlook 365 does not like authenticate email addresses that are different from send-from email addresses. Outlook 365 considers this to be "spam." But you can work around this problem. Work with your IT if this is your issue. The following KB article will also give you more information:
