Feature - Create a Transfer Batch to Transfer out the Entire Contents of One Bin

Release Date: 5/15/2024
Version: 8.5 & Up

Background

There is a feature in Elliott called Inventory Transfer Management, also called Inventory Transfer Processing. The feature is located at Inventory Management > Processing > Inventory Transfer Management. The primary purpose of this feature is to support multi-bin operations. An inventory transfer batch can be created either automatically or manually in this function.  Then the transfer ticket can be printed and let the warehouse perform the actual transfer from bin to bin.

Before this feature, if a user wished to perform an ad-hoc transfer of bin inventory, he/she could use Inventory Transfer Management -> Utility -> Simple Bin Transfer.  The system would prompt one item and bin at a time.  If there were multiple items stocked in the bin, it might have been time consuming to use the Simple Bin Transfer.

Feature

The purpose of this new feature is to supplement the "Simple Bin Transfer" function. It allows the user to create a transfer batch file that will transfer the entire contents of one bin into different bin(s). This is particularly useful if the bin has a large number of items that would otherwise be bothersome to enter by hand.  Typically, users can use this function to clean a bin to make space for incoming receiving. In addition, "Simple Bin Transfer" does not have the ability to print transfer tickets.  Since this feature creates an inventory transfer batch, it provides better auditing and history information than the "Simple Bin Transfer."

To access this feature, go to Inventory Management > Processing > Inventory Transfer Management. From there, go to Utility > Create one bin transfer batch. The following window will display:

From here, enter a warehouse location, the from bin, and the to bin. When prompted with "Field Number?," press Enter and a message will confirm the creation of a new batch file starting with the letter "F" followed by a 5-digit number. All batch files created via this feature will start at F00001 and ascend by natural counting sequence.  There are multiple types of transfer batches. The letter "F" = "Free" batch.

It should be noted that field 3, "To Bin No," can be blank. The reason for this is that the user may want to transfer items out of a bin, but they may not have decided where they want to transfer the items to, or the inventory may need to be transferred to multiple different bins. For this reason, they can choose to enter the To Bin No later.

At this point, you may choose to diSpatch the ticket, but the user may want to confirm the contents of the batch file before doing so. Click Change in the toolbar and type in the batch file in question, or search for it using F7. In this example, Transfer Batch F00013 will house three different items of varying quantity from bin 01001. All of these items are included in the transfer batch file, shown below.

After confirming that these are the correct items, this can be treated as a standard transfer batch that can be executed using diSpatch.
